The down turn in economy has surely affected our business
adversely but that has not affected our will power.
However, it must be understood that situation in India
is different as compared to other countries. Here we
only can offer larger influx of tourists to the Hoteliers
but so far as discounts are concerned, it is the Hoteliers
who have to offer discounts to us, to ensure some flow
of tourists to the Hotels to make it attractive to them.
Tourist organizations and Hoteliers are a two way
traffic … To run it smoothly, both have to consider
pros and cons of economy. The economy downtrend has
adversely affected the ENTIRE WORLD. Thus, whereas the
purchasing power and availability of money power to
the foreigners may have been affected, the same is equally
true for the Indian scene also. Therefore, if the foreigners
have been brought down to spend less; Hoteliers cannot
EXPECT more money by way of tariff. Same way, in such
a scenario, we, as tourist operators/Travel Agents also
have to appreciate and act as intermediaries and the
most prominent link between the Tourists and the Hoteliers
to effect a balancing act so that while the Hoteliers
do not lose, the Tourists get the best value for their
money.
The Hoteliers have to understand the economic trends
and settings. It is better to sell the Hotel rooms slightly
cheaper, so that room occupancy increases. It is better
to have the hotel rooms packed to full capacity even
at 75% of the normal rates rather than have 40 to 60
percent occupancy at normal, high rates. Because with
vacant rooms or fully occupied rooms, cost of maintenance
will almost be the same but with increased occupancy
or full occupancy, income will surely be much more.

The future of the Hotel Industry in India at least
is very bright. It is a known fact that small countries

of any one country is far larger than the whole of India.
India has a potential to lure 100% more tourists in
the coming 5 years. 20 years is too long a period. If
