Bhavna & Chandrashekar Singh - Home Stay Tourism

1) Please tell something about your organization, key achievements & benefits you provide to Asian Indian Hoteliers?

We are a family of four - Chandrasekhar Singh (I), Bhavna Singh (wife), Laxmi Kumari (my mother) and yashwardhan Singh (my son) and we invite potential guests to come and stay with us and share our lifestyle as well as culture with us. We request guests to have breakfast and dinner with us as a family so that there is a meaningful exchange of conversation between two families and we are able to inform the guests about ourselves, our country, our culture, our history and all aspects of our living and lifestyles. In return, we get to know about the guests and their lifestyles etc. Therefore there is a great amount of knowledgeable talk and conversation which enlightens the guests about India and its people. Ours is basically a people to people tourism and has gained great importance in the last few years. We have been able to make very good friends of all our guests who have really enjoyed our hospitality and company. My mother is 80 years old and she speaks fluent, convent English which surprises many and they keenly listen to the stories of yore she tells them. This is a great way to learn about each other - hotels everywhere are the same and very impersonal and there is little to be gained by way of responsible exchange of conversation with anyone in a hotel.

2) What can the our readers expect from you when they approach you. What are your promises to them?

We will give them a stay worth remembering as our guests in our home indrashan in Jodhpur. We will of course provide them accommodation but also meals in the form of local cuisine cooked by the family hostess or by chefs trained by her under her supervision. We will act as true family hosts in which they will not feel as aliens but as a part of the family in a very informal atmosphere. We would take them to any function like a marriage in the family or fair or even a bollywood film if they are interested or to a local cultural program etc. It will be a very informal and homely environment where they can go and help themselves in the kitchen or even learn cooking. And finally of course, they will see the local monuments and bazaars etc, which normally all tourists (staying in hotels also) come to see.

3) How has economy downturn affected your business? What steps you are doing to help hoteliers in this economy? Any special deal, discount, offer...

We are not a professional hotel or travel agency where we are dying for business. We are very happy hosting our guests and this is what we enjoy doing - letting our guests in our home. Therefore there is very little promotion of us. We give such interviews, we have a lot of guests who recommend us to their friends, we are highly recommended in "the trip advisor" as well as written bout in "special places to stay in India" by Alistair saw day and "rough guises". We would not like our home to be very full all the time. If it happens, then the family charm will go and that will defeat the very purpose we are promoting.

4) Do you have any online website section specifically for Hoteliers? Can NRI post their requirements, comments, complaints and grievances online?

As we say, we are a very private family and so we do not have a website. People will have to deal directly with us for all their bookings, grievances, complaints, reservations comments and any other requirement. We do not accept any guests who walk in - they will have to have a prior booking with us or they have to be recommended by someone to stay with us.

5) What do you see as the future of Hotel industry? What major trends will impact hotel business in coming 20 years?

We are sure the professional hotel industry will grow at a galloping speed in the next two decades. We are also sure of a bright future for the "home stay" or guests staying with families. We stared in 1995 and we had only three guests - last season we crossed something like two thousand guests staying at least 02/03 nights with us and taking advantage of our hospitality at indrashan. We are specially known for our food as mentioned in Alistair saw day’s special places to sai in India......"quote' : the gong for the best food in India goes to bhavna, as mentioned by satisfied guests...."
